Having a baby is not something to decide overnight. Having a baby does change a couple's life completely. Don't decide to have a baby for the wrong reasons.

Most women having a baby have thought it all through: the impact and cost of having a baby and the life-long commitments couples have to make for welcoming the baby into this world. But some couples have a baby for the wrong reasons. It’s important to think about these reasons before getting pregnant

Having a Baby will Fill a Void

The wedding is over, the honeymoon is over and everything is getting back to normal. Couples who have spent months preparing a wedding may feel like they are left with a void now that everything is over. They think that having a baby will fill this void and they soon start assembling tips on getting pregnant. Having a baby is just another big project for them. Beware though. This ‘project’ is a life-time commitment. There is no such thing as getting bored with a baby and starting a new project. Don’t think lightly about this and try not to mistake boredom with a genuine wish for a child.

All Your Friends and Relatives are Talking About Getting Pregnant

That 27-year old niece is getting pregnant and so are Jack and Julie. The subject of those fun friends' nights out has been the same for weeks now: from tips on getting pregnant and chances of getting pregnant to ovulation schedules and affordable diapers. Couples often feel pressured by this and start thinking that since everyone else is trying to get pregnant, so should they. Don’t be fooled. Just because two people are ready for a baby does not mean another couple is as well, just because they are friends.

A Baby will Bring More Romance into the Marriage

Many people see a baby as a product of love and they think a cute baby will bring more romance into their marriage. Those believing in fairy tales should watch out. A baby can be cute and the feeling that this baby is a result of the love between a married couple can be overwhelming. But babies do cry. Sometimes all night long. They will get sick and they will need to be looked after day and night. Especially in the beginning, having a baby can be very tiring and there will hardly be any time for romance between partners.

Parents Pressure Their Children

Remember those days as a single person when mom used to point out that it was time to start a relationship? And afterwards, that she kept asking when the big day would be? Parents can start dropping hints about babies after the marriage, just as they did about other things in the past. They often expect their children to have a baby soon after the wedding. Don’t give in to the pressure though. Couples who are not ready to have a baby, should not be pressured by their parents.

Do it Right

Any of the reasons above sound familiar? Then reconsider having a baby. Starting a family just because Aunt Betty or Mom wants this to happen is a wrong reason. Couples should have their baby when they are absolute ready for it.
